Our Mission

St. Joseph Retreat Center, a non-profit ministry located at the Wheeling Center, serves as a means of extending the mission of loving unity to which the Congregation of St. Joseph is called. Through our programs and peaceful environment, we strive to provide a place where individuals and groups may nourish their spiritual lives. People of all faith traditions are welcome.

Anna Marie Troiani

Anna Marie is the Executive Director at St. Joseph Retreat Center. Her professional experience includes work in campus ministry, student development, and diocesan ministry. She was trained in the Boundless Compassion program with Sister Joyce Rupp, OSM, in 2015. She is often accompanied to work by her four-legged friend, Picasso.

Sister Janet Mock, CSJ

Janet is a Sister of St. Joseph from Baden, Pennsylvania. She recently completed her term as Executive Director of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious and is currently living in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.

John Spiesman

John completed training as a spiritual director through the Haden Institute, an ecumenical program in the Jungian Mystical Christian tradition. He accompanies journeyers in person, on the telephone, or through Skype, welcoming all who long for a deeper relationship with the Divine. John has been a career educator and administrator and currently works as a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Ohio, pastoral counselor, and spiritual director.

Beth Andes, MS, LPCC

Beth is a clinical counselor in private practice and offers opportunities to explore one’s physical well-being. As a certified Somatic Therapist and Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (cm), she offers individual Feldenkrais lessons as well as Awareness Through Movement® group lessons.

Sr. Helen Skormisley, CSJ

Helen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Trauma Therapist. She has completed the Spiritual Direction and Dream Leadership Training Programs at the Haden Institute in Hendersonville, North Carolina. She believes in the power of the dream to guide and change an individual’s life. She has been committed to her own dreamwork for over thirty years and integrates dreamwork into her grief counseling and spiritual direction practices with clients.

Retreat Directors

Sr. Paula Drass, CSJ

Paula is a Sister of St. Joseph from Baden, Pennsylvania. Presently, she is involved with spiritual direction, retreat work, and is on the staff of the Pneuma Spiritual Direction and Leadership  Institute. She has served as novice director and on the leadership team of her community as well as the US Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She is currently co-director of the Associate Program in Baden.

Sister Jeanne Cmolik, CSJ

Jeanne is a Sister of St Joseph currently living in Cleveland. She is the Director of New Member-ship for the Congregation of St. Joseph and coordinates RCIA in a local parish. She received her training in spiritual direction through the Haden Institute. This is her first time with us as a director for this retreat.

Spiritual Directors

Sr. Kathleen Durkin, CSJ

Kathleen is a trained spiritual director and facilitator. She has served in congregational leadership and in formation of new members and diocesan seminarians. She has done further work in the area of dreams and spiritual direction and has a long-time commitment to care for the environment. She is available for facilitation, retreats, and spirituality programs.

Sr. Ily Fernandez, CSJ

Ileana (Ily) is a certified spiritual director and retreat director. She holds a Master’s Degree in Christian Spirituality from Creighton University, Omaha, NE and a Master’s Degree in Religious Studies from Incarnate Word University, San Antonio, Texas. Sr. Ily is available for spiritual direction and retreats through St. Joseph Retreat Center.
